Got this in the mail yesterday. Wondering what you all think about it. Obverse isn't as lustrous as I would like, but considering the date and the fact it's a spitting eagle, I certainly like it. Considering whether to have it graded or not.

Looks nice to me! Nice spitting eagle VAM. I wasn't as lucky with my recent 91CC purchase.

Personally, I think the VAM-3 is overrated as a Top 100 coin. There have been about 4,000 of them certified. They are not rare, and I think they're overpriced.

Several years ago, dealers were infected with VAM fever and used the VAMView price guide to assist them, but after discovering how much time and research was needed to attribute them properly, their enthusiasm waned considerably. As a result, the pricing trends for many of the VAM's have made an about-face. I think that the 91-CC VAM-3 is, or will be, one of them. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't have it certified, but if you ever want to sell it for a profit, you will have to find a VAMpire who doesn't have one.

Well it's really to put into my collection...but I like my collection to be graded. Someday I will sell it but not for quite awhile. Having a VAM is nice but not that important to me. If it was a plain old 91-CC I'd be just as happy. But what the heck, it's spitting so I'll keep it.

While I don't think you'll be able to get that much more than a regular old 1891-CC when it comes time to sell, I'm always a fan of cool and easily noticeable die varieties.

Nice Morgan VAM. Though its popular I don't really consider that Morgan to be rare for the same reasons Cpm9ball stated.

It is fun to look at all the VAMs and notice how many there is. Though some of them are a bit hard to id.

I agree. But I don't think many VAMs are worth more than what the regular coin would be worth but it is kind of cool to see it listed on the graded coin.

Unfortunately, the only grading service that will attribute ALL VAM's is ANACS while NGC & PCGS will only attribute select categories such as Top 100, Hot 50, Hit List 40, etc.

It is a nice coin. I'd submit it, as I consider a 91cc a good date, and it should be in a slab, whether or not it is attributed. Yeah, it is a spitting eagle VAM, but not that many folks, except for VAM enthusiasts give that much of a rip about that. I have been an avid Morgan collector for many years, and VAMS don't ring my bell. Do submit it, as it is a good date--the same way the 1880CC, 1881CC, and 1885CC are. Looks like a very nice MS coin, and deserves a home in plastic. :)

Thanks. That's the plan, to have it graded. I love Morgans. There is just something about them...partly because I remember as a kid living near an old Security Pacific Bank in Calif. that we got them over the counter from the tellers there. If I'd only known then what I know now!!! They are just a cool looking and feeling coin in my opinion.
