That's pretty funny... I guess a novice might mistake the designer's initial for a MM.. wouldn't be the first time. On a side note, this auction is an excellent representation of the fallacy of eBay's new pic requirements; 500 pixels on the long side of a lousy photo is still a lousy photo.
Couldn't open it. Apparently I have to download an app that will enhance my ebay experience. Yeah, right.
I'm curious, is MM in the area that the correct mint mark would be? I'm thinking punches and a drawing: "put MM [mint mark] here."
No, the designer's initial (M) is to the right and slightly above the date (and is incluse). The mint mark would be to the left and slightly above the date (and is raised). The seller of this quarter is a "non-coin" person and only sees the "M" (MacNeil). He relisted the item, still with the same lousy photo: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380677006967
Happens a lot with non-coin people. Buffalos with F mintmarks, Standing Liberties with M mintmarks, and mercury dimes and walking liberty halves with W mintmarks.
