So, earlier this year my wife and I decided to drive down to San Diego (2-3 hours) and go to Tijuana. She wanted a plate and I wanted to see if I could find some peso's cheap. Really didn't find any cheap pesos, but after I was too tired to really look, we found Kentucky Curios and Coin Shop (really) on Revolution, which may have had some good coins, but I just didn't feel like looking anymore. As we started to catch a cab, one of the street vendors approached me and I ended up with some coins after all for $1.00

Your second coin there is from Paraguay.

There used to be a lot of world coin discussions on this forum. I'm not sure what happened.

I've certainly developed a minor obsession with Mexican coinage, particularly the Ocho Reales and Un Peso issues spanning the 1823-1914 time period.

They're rather "organic" if I may be permitted to use that term, with a lot of minor variations to hold your interest. Compared to Morgans, finding truly uncirculated examples is a real challenge. Many offered as such will actually grade as impaired AU, often from having been harshly cleaned.

What is on your list? I recently completed my 20th Century Type set and I used a lot of different resources. I might be able to help you find what you are looking for. Believe it on not one of the hardest to find is the 1970,72,73 one centavo. Good luck in you search.

I know what you mean about the 1 centavo. I finally won the 1973 on eBay after getting outbid about 10 times. Then I found one in a coin shop for $3 a few weeks later.

I need the 1986 20 pesos, 1990 10 pesos, 1992 500 pesos and 2002 5 centavos. There are a few older coins too but those are more a matter of price. These that I mentioned I just can't find. Most have low book values but you never see them.

Some guy down in Mexico could make some bucks selling devalued coins by the pound.

Not really. There are a few that are hard to find but most are common as dirt. If you go into a coin shop and look at their world coin value bin, Mexican coins are usually one of the most common, probably because it's so close and there are many immigrants in the U.S. Of course, most people probably wouldn't recognize the rare ones, which might be why they're so hard to find. Who would see a base metal 1986 20 peso and think it would be worth their time listing it on eBay?

Close kind of depends on where you are. If you are in CA, AZ, NM or TX, you are close, but there are lots of collectors in MN. In CA, I usually see separate bins for Mexican coins.

I have some Mexican coins too. Mostly bullion (Libertads) but others as well. I'm mostly interested in modern commemorative Mexican coins but I'm open to other coins. The problem I see to have is I can't find a good source/dealer to buy coins from. What dealer do you use to get your coins?
