Apollo Sauroktonos exists as Roman copy marbles from a lost original bronze by Praxiteles (mid 4th century BC) and quite a number of coins from Moesian cities of the Severan period of which my favorite is my Geta. There are several minor variations of pose and I am not 100% certain how accurately the oldest marble copies the original. Cleveland claims to have a part of the original but I do not know if they have it on exhibit or why they believe their piece is old. Note that three of my coins appear to show the young Apollo with dart in hand drawing back to throw at what could be a smake or a lizard while two (first and last) show the hand creeping forward to grab the lizard. The reason I love the Geta is the clearly defined lizard and the closeness to the pose shown in the Louvre marble. The obvious question is whether there were two original statues (dart and grab) of when the second form was added. One has to expect that Nikopolis had a statue of the type in town since they issued so many coins of the type.
Yah, originally I said that I wasn't gonna snag this gimme, but nobody else was jumpin' on-board, so "cha-ching!!" => Akarnania AR Stater & Hadrian AE Dupondius => "Pegasus"
One more and then I'm gonna go ride my bike to the lake and back ... Syracuse Hieron I AR TET, Syracuse AR Litra, Syracuse AE Hemilitron ... => "Arethusa"
Syracuse Timoleon AE Hemidrachm, Macedonia Philip II AR Tetradrachm, Ptolemy IV Philopator AE40 ... => "ZEUS"
Athenian Imitative Attic Owl, Syracuse Sicily Litra, Syracuse Sicily Pyrrhus AE24 (the reverse is Athena Promachos), => "Athena"
Carthage AE20 => "Tanit" Ummm, the first photo is accurate (Tanit) ... ahhh, but the other two ancient statue photos are merely a depiction of how "I" think the whole thingy went down!!! (man, ya gotta believe!!)
Well, if we're goin' for Roman Rulers, then I'm gonna jump all over my boy, "NERO" ... and his buddy, "NED" => Nero, AE As
