Alexander III...counterfiet?

    This Alexander III I currently have Id'ed as price 3033. someone has expressed that it may be counterfeit. Thoughts? alexanderiii.jpg

    I agree that it look fake (softness, metal,...). You have the weight ?

    I don't currently have a scale. I will take it to my friend's coin shop this week and weigh it.

    it measures 28.3mm and weighs 15.2 grams.

    Very light, should be a little over 17 g... Definitely a counterfeit imo...

    it doesn't represent a loss as it was thrown in with a lot of coins that I bought from a dealer friend that doesn't deal in ancients. I wanted to confirm because if it was real I felt I owed him some money.

    Honesty IS the best policy. How you treat others will come around to you. I picked up a Trajan Decius from a local coin dealer who doesn't trade in Ancients. I brought it home, and, after researching, found the approximate value. I later returned to the shop and gave the owner what I felt was a fair price. I didn't have to go back or even tell him it was worth a dime. But I felt compelled to do the right thing. Ever since, this coin dealer calls me every time someone brings in an Ancient to give me first shot at it. Yep. What goes around comes around.
