Ahhh.... 1969. The summer of love.... and the year the Royal Canadian Mint left the back door open... I bought these coins this past month, individually, in the span of two weeks from different coasts of the country, one from Victoria, the other from Halifax. These are double struck coins on Canadian 10-cent planchets. The first strikes were the normal 10-cent strike, in collar. The second strikes are by 1-cent dies. One coin (on the right in each image) is double struck with the obverse/reverse of both denominations on the same side. The other coin (on the left in each image), is double struck flip strike, with the obverse/reverse sides of each denomination swapped. Both were struck on 2.1 grams, magnetic, nickel Canadian 10-cent planchets. You can find double struck sets like this quite easily with 1969 1-cent coins, but I have never seen 1969 coins double struck by two different denominations before. As Heritage would politely put it, "probably with help of the press operator".
Oh boy...we all know who we can expect showing up in this thread. Those are some nice examples, though.
Great lookin' error coins, SPP-O ... glad to see that you're still finding some total winners to add to your collection!! :thumb:
I am an error collector and, in some circles, an error expert with Canadian coins. Your explanation of a double denomination coin in this thread is quite redundant (only because you find a way to put the same stuff in almost every error coin thread that exists)... As for ACG and its founder, well, if you dig deep enough in the manure pile, you'll find my opinion that was placed there a long time ago. Lastly, I think you need a few more adjectives for your coin... "super ultimate unique of major error striking variety" /end sarcasm
Redwin117, your conclusions of MONETARY value are beyond optimistic, to put it politely. Heck, given the LOW mintages of Canadian coins, and the fact that I have a MATCHING PAIR of double denomination coins, one being a FLIP STRIKE with both dates being visible and double images of the QUEEN (royalty!) and the fastest sailing ship in the ocean, the BLUENOSE, and the Canadian MAPLE LEAF, which produces MAPLE SYRUP (best Canadian export ever, next to hockey) I would expect nothing less than two Bugatti Veyrons in exchange - YOU should be JEALOUS of me... especially so AFTER I put my coins in Secure Plus PCGS holders. Your plastic slab will be jealous of my plastic slabs... I will own the most valuable PAIR of error coins on the planet - but please don't hate me for having two superior coins in superior slabs... (I can't help myself using all caps, in this style, given how you have HIJACKED this thread) /end sarcasm.... ----------------------------- Does that writing style look familiar to you?? I started this thread, because I wanted to share a really cool, and quite rare, Canadian set of error coins. Even though I have only been on CoinTalk for a year, already I knew what could come. This was a tough decision for me, do I post them in the World Forum (Canadian thread), where no fellow error collectors would likely see it?? Do I just lurk in the shadows or do I share my cool pair of error coins, knowing fully well, that I ran the risk of you hijacking it? In fact, in hindsight, the rest of the error gang should have started a betting pool, because it was not a matter of IF, but a matter of WHEN... it is not the collective error group that almost prevented me from sharing my errors - it was knowing YOU were going to hijack it (as predicted, I might add). Here is a real question for you - Will there ever be a day, when someone can share a double denomination error here, without you cutting and pasting the same stuff (ad nauseam) and hijacking the thread?? I have other double denomination Canadian errors, but I think I will decline from sharing them here... the last thing I need is another thread trolled and hijacked...
I am not sick of his coin yet because I just got here and haven't seen it much. I would like to see him list it with no reserve and we would find out! Or, with the best offer feature so we can actually see if a serious offer is made. An auction with a big reserve would also show us the bidding. Then we can see the zero feedbackers at play
This thread is about an 11 cent Canadian error, lets keep it that way or I'll do more than lock the thread!
SPP, I care about seeing the other Coins you have. You have my email, send them that way if your concerned about the issues here. ( I just purchased several varieties from you via Mike M.)
Hi Jim, I am considering writing an article for Errorscope on this cool pair of Canadian 11-cent coins.... have you received the July/August issue yet?? Look for one of my coolest Canadian errors in that issue... I have posted quite a few Canadian errors here over the past year. They used to be in my photo albums, prior to the CoinTalk software upgrade. Just do a search for my postings... I did post a beautiful clamshell lamination peel, in that "struck through grease" thread that you participated in... and I just posted a new flip strike error in a separate thread. Thanks for the moral support! --Roger
Yes I did see the article and its well written Roger. That is a neat coin, how that got out of the mint I will never know. ( And keep sending in Articles! They are enjoyed by many!)
