Does anyone know how many PL US coins were designated by either NGC or PCGS for 1992? I bought the nickel and was hoping to put together a full set if possible. Do population reports show coins with the PL designation? Thanks, Will
NGC requires a very high level of PL before they'll designate a coin as such. None of the current sets can be completed as PL by these standards. Some dates such as 1974 come only with very muted PL characteristics though the '74 dollar is the exception to this as well as all three of the cents. If you can relax your standards a bit a PL of any of the current denominations will be a very challenging and beautiful set to assemble though you can't get then all slabbed as PL. Some of these coins, like the '88-D cent, are almost indistinguisable from proofs and even have the squared rim and appear to be struck twice. All the '92 issues are relatively common as PL though several usually come with heavy marking and clean ones can be rare to non-existent in PL.
