Ancients: Magnentius Trier but unlisted m/m

Tonight's auction win was actually not sold in the sale but appeared on the unsold list at a price I accepted. I assume the coin lost appeal due to being listed as possibly barbarous and it could be. The mintmark is not in RIC with the dot before and the crescent following which adds to the theory that the coin may not be official. Reverse centering could be better but, overall, it is an acceptable item.

Magnentius Trier Felicitas Reipublicae RIC 266 VAR. (A behind bust dot before m/m)

You had another thread in which you discussed the boots on the soldier of a FH type. The boots on this coin I think are just as detailed. I would most def. accept this coin into my collection.

I am curious, have you found any other examples of this? I think the portrait is pretty nice, and if its barbarous then thats even better bust. ;)

I have the same basic coin from the same mint minus the dot and crescent and the A on the obverse. This is the 'normal' variety.

I see the new software allows the choice of uploading a thumbnail at the bottom or a larger, clickable photo in the text. After we all get used to the changes, this seems like an improvement.

So far, I like the larger "clickable" photo image. This will take some getting used to, but I think overall this will be an improvement.

    I prefer the second image...

    Nice shot too

I fail to find a way to change a thumb to a large photo onces posted. For that matter, have we lost the capability to edit a post after it is posted?

No, there is an edit function on this post but not on my earlier ones on this thread so it will be necessary to spell check quickly. I have no idea how long the edit window remains open.

I have the edit capabilities on my last post but not the first. The last post was posted over two hours ago.

Wow, Ripley, that is a nice obverse. I particularly like the hair curls that frame the face. I have nothing like it and would love to know which mint produced the coin. From the photo I can not make out any of the mintmark which is a real shame with a coin otherwise this nice. Can you read anything that does not show in the photo?

Man, I feel like a newborn fawn, stumbling around with this new format!!

... ummm, I had some enormous number of likes (3,500+) ... now I have "4"

=> geeesh, that's harsh!! (I was kinda proud of my "ratio")

Yup, it's a bit like recovering from a spinal injury => starting from scratch and learning to walk all over again ...

=> "c'mon stevex6, don't give up now lil' buddy ... just put lefty in front of righty"

Its OK, Steve. I see you have 36 'Trophy Points' so, even by Manitoba standards your be a head mount when they shoot you. There are several things I like and don't like about the new software but one of the main things I like is that there is someone besides me who does the work on it and takes the guff from all those who don't like it.

    => oh, and you're 100% correct => I'm sure that I'll end-up figuring-out the new format (thanks IT dudes!!)

    Cheers
