Does anyone know the true value of a 1943 steel penny?

you need to include the mintmark and condition. in average condition 1943-25 cents 1943D-25 cents 1943S-35 cents. also, if the D mintmark on the 1943D is bold or doubled, it is worth about 6 bucks.

If you are talking about the steel value, then probably about a 1/2 Cent!

Coinlover - where on earth did you get those prices? They are waaaaaaaaay high for anything but the very highest grades of brilliant uncirculated coins that have not been reprocessed (and just try to find any of those :D).

I purchased my '43 S for $15, and it's probably around the MS-63/5 range. That seems to be as high as they run, unless we're talking about TPG MS-69's and the like for the same S mint.

My brother gave me his PDS set of Steelies a while back. GOt to looking at them and there aren't any of the reprocessing signs that y'all had warned me about way back when, no signs of cleaning or anything. I'm still a rookie by far, but I'd guess MS63/64. Wish I had my camera back and I'd share. Maybe someday :D

My dad got some rolls of BU Steel cents and I'm quite sure that he didn't pay more than $25 a roll---and IIRC it was less than $20
