Martha Washington is the only woman whose portrait has appeared on a U.S. currency note. Martha’s portrait was on the face of the one dollar 1886, 1891, and on the back of the 1896 one dollar Educational silver certificate.

    Enjoy,

    Jeff

Anna Willess Williams appears on the 1886 $5 silver certificate (in her guise as the goddess of liberty on the Morgan dollar). So good was Morgan's rendering of her likeness, and so striking was her beauty, that by 1879 she was instantly recognizable on the street, and had to endure being mobbed by admirers, as well as receiving thousands of letters (some addressed simply to "The Silver Dollar Girl, Philadelphia, PA"), and quite a few marriage proposals.
