Can someone tell me more about this 1983 DDO. I recently found this in pocket change. It blew my mind when I saw it. I have been looking for 1983 DDR cents, but was amazed at this one. I could only get a pic of the word "GOD" but the whole "In God We Trust" as well as "LIBERTY" is Doubled. I am familiar with Mechanical doubling, but these letters have distinct splits....

Any help would be appreciated. :)

It does look like one of the 1983 DDOs in the Cherrypickers' Guide. Can you give us a picture of the whole coin?

It looks like the Lincoln cent DDO: LCDDO-001 as listed in Wexler's "Authorative Reference on Lincoln Cents"
    Page #241.
It is listed as a Class V, Tilted Hub Doubling.
URS-6 (Universal Rarity Scale of 6) = 17 to 32 known. Don't get too excited:
However, they list the value as $12 in Au and $30 in MS-63.
    Still, nice find.

I agree with Tony, it looks like a DD FS#1c-035 in CherryPickers' Guide.
    Great Find!

This is what I found, Mine does have the Stage B Die Crack. Thanks for the info. As far as a pic of the whole coin, I'm still trying to work on that. My digital does 7megs but I have no tripod or proper lighting yet.

Tom...are you sure your 83 DDO matches the DDO-001? When I look at your photo again it looks like a light spread rather than an strong spread. I see that stage A of the DDO-003 has the marker of the die crack right of the building to rim and the DDO-006 stage A has the marker of the die crack lower right of building to rim also. Any of the other markers match your 83 DDO?

  10. If you click on the link I provided in post #3 you'll see photos of the coin, a good way to check to see if the die scratches match.

Michael...I am not convinced the photos on Chuck's site (copper coins) match the 83 1-O-V, DDO-001. Check out the photo of TRUST in Wexlers book, "The Lincoln Cent Doubled Die" and compair it to the TRUST photo on Copper Coins, not the same.
