Need help with pricing a 1853 California 1/4 gold piece.

To the best of my ability I have found the piece to be an authentic 1853 California 1/4 octagonal liberty, with a wreath style back.

This information was gained using Mike Locke's California Gold page at calgoldcoins.com.

I'm working on this for a family member and would greatly appreciate any help, even a ballpark figure would be a great start.

    Thanks in advance.

Could you post some photos---before anyone could really guess a value they would need to see what it would grade--and they would also like to see for themselves if it is real ;)
A ton of these are fake----as you have found out.
After that you would want to send it to a grading company---that is if you are going to sell it.

Errmac, that looks brass.Gold is a metal that doesn't usually go black.I've got a strong feeling that this is a dud.

I have to agree with Aiden, that was why I asked.
    Sorry about that.

I'm sorry but it doesn't look real---I would suggest that you get the weight of the coin....

It's not real errmac, it's just a token. If you wish to take the time to look it up you should be able to find it here - Cal Gold
