Can't seem to find this coin in my copy of Krause catalogue, any additional information welcome Unlike described 1 peso coins from that time - number '1' for a value, copper-nickel alloy- this one is apparently aluminium bronze, value's expressed with a word 'un', and a different motto: 'patria o muerte'. Thanks!
This coin is from Communist Cuba.'PATRIA O MUERTE' is the Spanish for 'Land or Death'.It is one of Fidel Castro's favourite sayings. Aidan.
Thatj's why it says "Republica de Cuba" on the reverse. Although Korea and possibly a few other countries put their country name on some coins in both their own script and English, the vast majority of countries use their own languages for the legends.
I know it's from Cuba, if you take a closer look at what I've said you'll see I've made comparison to other Cuban peso coins from that time described in my Krause catalogue. Thanks anyway
