Three-Cent Silver

    Collecting Nut Borderline Hoarder

    Also called a Trime. They were minted from 1851-1873 in silver and from 1865-1889 in nickel. This one is an 1853 silver Trime with 11,400,000 minted. There is a light toning with pale colors that show as gray in the fields and around the rim area. This coin has found a home in my Whitman’s Type Set Album.

    been shopping for a couple of those still for my type set... I have a nice type 1 still need the type 2 and 3 but not the easiest coins to come by lol :D

    So from 65 to 73 they were produced in both silver and nickel?

    And I have no idea what the message stating "I maybe and probably" is about. I did not post that, my phone took it upon itself to post that??? Very weird, I apologize.

    Yes, they had some overlapping years as the silver ones were hoarded at that time. Most all of the silver three-cent pieces from 1865-1872 that were not proof issues were melted in 1873
