By the time I finished typing my post other people had posted similair things ...... and I posted was and is both by mistake on the title and couldn't undo it.

 

i bought a morgan dollar once for 30 bucks thatturned out to be worth 1,250.00

Welcome to the forum where no question is strange or unusual except some of the ones I ask.
I found my 1914d lincoln cent in change and it's a key date for those of us that collect them.It's worth over $100.
Here is a pic.

 

I'm hoping that I haven't made my luckiest coin find yet.

 

a dateless barber quarter for a quarter, a 1924S peace for $14, a 1880 indian for a buck.

 

I really like cloudsweeper's mentality on his coin find! I feel the same.

Pulled this out of a vending machine. Others I've seen sell for $400-$500. I bought it out of the change bin for .25!

My best find was when I asked at a garage/yard sale if they had any old jars of cans of coins laying around. The lady said yes they have this jar of pennies they were going to use as change for the sale. I asked if I could see it. I offered to buy the jar. They made me sit there and count the change. I can't remember the exact amount but I ended up offering them $50 for it and they took it. The bottom contained about $5 face value of Indian Cents with the rest, about $30 face of all Lincoln Cents prior to 1950 and almost all between EF and UNC.

 

I would have to say that the luckiest coin find was the nice looking 1959-D Memorial Cent at the bottom of the bank that Thalia Elizabeth accidently broke one Sunday afternoon not too long ago. That led directly to her interest in coins, then Queen Elizabeth, and then meeting all of you nice people!

 

Actually I had hoped someone could help me with what a Eurpoean Robin was. Can find not much information about it. What I have found (via ebay) that there were various birds, depicted on "coins" and made from silver and I think the year was 1971. I will take a picture of the one I have later today. It is really nice, I would hope to collect the remaining ones in the series. Used the word coin, for lack of the correct word to use. My mentality goes, if it is round, silver and rolls, it's a coin.
