    Hi folks. :)
I know, I know. I have been told not to go for the "uncleaned ancient lots" on ebay, and instead just save up for a nice single coin. But I like the hunt/attribution aspect of the lots, and I am doing this for educational purposes with no real intent to make a profit. I will even be doing this "project" with a friend who is even newer to coins than I am.
I ordered 50 uncleaned ancients and they arrived today, and I got right to work. Most are soaking, but this is one I picked out and felt like photographing earlier. Can anyone give me info on this coin? I'll probably be posting quite a few throughout the week if that is ok with everyone, as to just avoid swamping the subforum with multiple threads...
Anyway, here is coin numero uno.

To me it looks either like Gallienus or a Gallic issue, but I'm not 100% sure due to the condition of the coin.

The condition is pretty rough, but a little easier to see in-hand. I'll search the terms you provided and see what I can get. :)

The reverse is a figure holding scales. Ill see if I can find who it is. It will make the attribution a little easier.

Alright so the deity holding scales and cornucopiae on the reverse is either Aequitas or Moneta. But the twist is that the remaining letters don't seem to match Aequitas's and Moneta's legends. I see ERT. Only deity I could come up with with these letters in their name in this order is Libertas. Can you tell me any letters you can see in hand, obverse and reverse?

I can confirm the ERT on the reverse. As for the obverse, I think I see an OS, possibly ANOS, as part of a bigger word.

I think it looks like Claudius II Gothicus, Aequitas reverse holding scales and cornucopiae. Perhaps something like this one of mine:

    The reverse is VBERTAS AVG....

It looks similar to that, but the design looks a little different, and the reverse letters appear larger on my coin. (Although that may just be because of condition.)
Thank you everyone for the help! I'll be posting another neat one soon.

Then it could be something like this Claudius II Uberitas reverse holding holding cornucopiae and purse:
    Claudius II 5 OBV_opt.jpg Claudius II 5 REV_opt.jpg

I'll definitely look into the information given for the above coin. Meanwhile, here is another one in better shape, which will hopefully make it easier to attribute. :thumb:

Is that in reference to the "rock", or the latest coin?
I like the reverse design of the latest one, the guy with the hat on the left looks happy. :)

Anyone have information about the most recently-posted coin? Do I need better photos?

NC= the reverse is GLORIA EXERCITVS, but there are several emperors who used this reverse and I can't tell from your obverse. We need to be able to read the legends.

I'm guessing by the number of letters that this is a Constantius II. But don't take that as gospel.

Reverse looks like someone standing over someone else with a dagger I think?
