But maybe I'm just a Negative Nancy. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1811-Capped-Bust-1-2-Cent-LOOK-/261234582843?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3cd2cb653b
No feedback yet, and a high dollar coin if it is in fact authentic. He also says sales are final, which is not ebay's policy. All sales are not final if this turns out to be made in China (or someone's basement).
I'm sure he does "always error on the side of caution" -- except when he lists a high-four-figure coin as a zero-feedback seller. I don't know half-cents at all, but I'd view this strictly as a buyer-protection exercise.
Without even looking at the coin, I would say there are only two chances of this auction being legit. Slim and None, and Slim just left town.
I don't know what you are seeing. Everything seems to be matching up to be an 1811 C-2. Color looks a bit off, but I won't condemn it for that.
Well, I for one did not say the pic was bad, it is the legitimacy of the auction I said had virtually no chance of being legit. The pic is of an authentic coin. It appears like the seller pulled it off of Greg S. Heims site or maybe another since this coin is one of many that has been imaged and cataloged by the same person, as is evident by the same exact backround used in at least 100 images of EAC on Gregs site. The seller made a special point how he photographed the coin himself, but that is not the case, so it cannot even be argued it is possible he purchased the coin and used the existing image. As I said Slim just left town http://njcoinbuyer.com/Classicheadhalfcents/1811C220101129.jpg
OMG someone put out 2K+ for a coin, with a seller with 0 feedback. Martha Bar the Gates !!!!! :dead-horse:
True you didn't say the picture was bad. You didn't say the picture was good. Your didn't say the coin was good. Your didn't say the coin was bad. You said the auction wasn't legitimate, but didn't say how or in what way it was not legitimate. Just that it couldn't be. With so many Chinese fakes floating around I checked that and couldn't find anything wrong with the coin. Now I will admit I didn't research the seller or search the net to see if the picture may have come from somewhere else. I just said I don't see anything wrong with the coin. And I admit I didn't make it clear who my comment was directed at. It was supposed to be in response to the OP.
Conder, If my on-line persona came off as me being a butthead, that is only because I am a SOCIAL DISASTER No offense intended. Mike
Don't sweat it, I rarely really get offended, and as a rule I don't stay offended. I can tell I came off kinda snarky in that last post as well, and that was inappropriate.
