Hi, i saw an advert in the times a couple of weeks ago about coinwatches. I want to get my Dad a watch for Christmas and was wondering if someone could tell me which would be more suitable to have in the watch a Florin, Sixpence or Commemorative Medallion. I had a quick look on Wikipedia but couldn't find anything. The website is: http://www.coinwatch.co.uk Cheers.
It's totally up to you. Afterall, they are all "damaged" coins used in watches. Welcome to cointalk by the way.
Welcome, and I agree, I'd probably go with the medallion, I wouldn't want to encourage destroying coins.
to CoinTalk brookbab. As I read their ad, your choices for a man's watch are really between a badly damaged and numismatically destroyed florin or the medallion. :thumb:
Are the florins silver? I'm not familiar with the particular coins, but I would choose a coin that is gold or silver to give the watch a little added class and value. I think this would be a nice gift. Coin jewelry isn't popular among pure collectors, so keep that in mind when reading the responses.
Yeah i think it is a great gift. Im just mulling over which coin to go for before purchasing.. Cheers
A Morgan Silver Dollar looks very nice set in the cover plate of a Pocket Watch! However, if you purchase one, you might want to check out the coin before you give it to him. I purchased a damaged Pocket Watch awhile back that had an 1896-O Morgan Silver Dollar in the cover (face) plate and it was an 1896/6-O Variety. Good luck...Frank
I fancy a watch with a coin in it now lol. I mean, who cares if the coins now damaged, I'd be buying it because it's in the watch and it has something to do with my hobby, not because I want it to fill a gap or something.
