8O Has anyone looked at the 2003 FUN Show auction results by Heritage Coin. Prices were astounding, guess I ben giving my Dollars away on ebay. Common date morgans grading MS60 and 61 bringing almost a 100 bucks a pop. In my short scan I saw nothing graded less than XF45 and some of these brought big bucks. Glad I didn't stay for the auction now.

I understand the surprise some express by the $39k realized for the '63 PF70DCAM cent. But why is there no surprise expressed for the '16-S MS67 nickel that sold for $26,450 - the '25-S MS65 nickel that sold for $27,000 - the '23-S MS66 nickel that sold for $43,700 ? These coins all had mintages that were double or triple that of the '63 proof cent.

So I guess the next comment will be - yeah but only a few of them are still around. OK - let's assume 80% of the mintage of the nickels is gonzo. In the case of the '16-S that means 20% - or almost 3 million are still around.

So why no shock & surprise for this coin ?

I guess there wasn't that much shock about those coins because they are older and most of the higher grade ones have been cherrypicked and sent in. There are probably thousands of 1963 Pf sets still intact and who knows how many of those pennies are PF-70 i'm sure there is at least 2-3 more out there yet.
