First Strike worth $2,000 dollars?

I was looking to pick up a 20th aniversity set in the aftermarket and while looking at such things, I become confused beyond belief once again by the metrics of the recent market hypes and prices.

This one goes way beyond me. There is a $2,000 difference between this reverse proof PR70 DCAM first strike and the plain DCAM PR 70! ALL ON A COIN WITH A LOW MINTAGE in the first place. Can people be so careless with the money to make these extreme buying decisions based on a marketing ploy?

Are their anything but DCAM PRs of Eagles these days? I am completely confused. a $3,000 price tag seems completely redicules in the first place.

Gosh I hope that was a typo. well maybe again hope it is not. lol

The question appears to be " is the revese proof worth the 2k over the regular old fashion DCAM proof " . Well that is the 2k question. actually may be closer to 3k but anyhow ,the revese proof (not the last i am sure) First ever vs. old stand by which they have been making for years.

Lots of people are betting that it is and lets face it that is what it is a gamble. I personally prefer the regular old fashion DCAM proof over the new reverse proof but that is my opion and that is why they make different people so you can get a lot of different opions on coins, Is it worth It? only time will tell but i will give you a definate maybe.

Do not think the reverse proof is designated as DCAM ,it is not in NGC . not sure in PCGS. The other tpg's..well

No these are both reverse proof. One is marked 1st strike and one isn't. If they were reverse proof and regular proof, I'd be just as discusted, but it would make some sense. These are the same coins, same grade, only difference is that one was designed for some oddball reason as "First Strike"

There is a sucker born every minute. This "first strike" designation is a load of hoowey. The reverse proof being the first of its kind is causing some collectors (not so bright ones) to think they have to have them at any price. The sellers exploit this. The hype can't last.

I also believe that the ultra or deep cameo is nothing special for these modern proofs. If the coin is not +cameo there is something very wrong.

Don't get me wrong I'm a big collect of these coins, but I won't be fooled into thinking they are something they are not!

thanks for the information . Sorry I was referring to the gold set. my mistake again. got to get my head into the game. Yes it is ridiculous especially since there are still a lot of sets that have not been graded. Have read that as many as 10 to 11 percentage of the reverse proof are grading 70.

when the Silver sets came out, the dealer i have bought some stuff from and who is among the lowest i have seen was asking 4.8 k (ngc) for the 70 grade a few weeks ago, they were at 2.2 k. in a 70. Recently on other sites i have seen them well below 2k, still way to high . The popularity of the silver eagles has in part drove them and the flash back of the 95 set. Guy on one of the tv shows was asking 7k (NGC) unreal

While the silver set is super nice, think they made to many to be looking at the prices of the high grade set that are being sold. Course as usual i may be wrong.

sorry for misreading the post. Still did not know that they were giving the "first Strike" thing on these sets. Understand that NGC is probably not going to use first strikes desingation next year but will come up with something else. that could get exciting .

In a few years all these "astute investors" standing around with their "unique" First Strike MS70 coins are going to notice everyone else standing around with their "unique" First Strike MS70 coins.
