I do plan to speak to the lady who does my taxes for more details, but what kind of paperwork will I need to keep for tax purposes? Are there any deductions available, such as items bought to resell or shipping? Speaking of shipping, if I had someone interested in buying internationally, is there anything particular I need to know about that?
Well if you keep records of all transactions, you won't have any problems at tax time. I still need to learn more about that myself. So I'm also eager to learn about taxes and eBay. Hopefully, an expert can post here on that topic. I have shipped internationally. Some sellers specifically say they won't ship internationally, but I haven't found it to be a problem. Just specify in your listing that international buyers will need to pay the actual postage for shipping and to contact you for an estimate. eBay has a calculator for international shipping to the specific country.
How do you deal with being out of town while a listing is up? I know that I'll be out of town from July 8-12. Is there a setting on ebay to handle that?
You can specify how many days you want the auction to last as well as schedule when it starts so you can have it running while you are out and plan it to end at a specific day and time. I find that having the auction end on Sunday evenings yields the best end result.
Personally, I never ship "rolls" of coins in anything other than a small flat rate priority mail box. In the past, I have received "bubble mailer" rolls that had broken rolls and damaged coins. Paper rolls or plastic tubes does not matter. They need protecting. I had one fella ship me a paper roll of Eisenhower Dollars in a Flat Rate envelope. The roll broke and the coins made there way out of the envelope. From that experience I always insure that my rolls do not get broken. Shipping is a bit more expensive but insuring that the roll arrives in tact is the most important aspect of selling. Coin Lots should be secured in their own packaging and place into some other type of mailer but the OP needs to keep in mind that money (i.e. coins) attract attention if they are easily identifiable. Attention can result in a theft.
Unsold is in Red. Sold is in Green. Sometimes you can search by only Sold listings but eBay keeps updating that and changing it.
Thankfully, you can currently search by only sold. Wierd thing is, if you decide you want to go back to "live" auctions/BINs, and uncheck the "sold" box requirement, 9 times out of 10 for me it magically checks the "completed" box without me choosing that, so I have to wait for it to refresh, and then uncheck that too. A real pain....
