Today I found the only surviving example of the short run of 1974 Lincoln Cents that were minted at the temporary mint in Lincoln, Nebraska. Since it is the only survivor, I will start the bidding at $100,000. Who's interested? :D

Not really that funny since some newbies might actually believe you.

These were in fact aftermarket produced for sales to the "casual collector" looking for that pot-of-gold. All of the states were represented.

I've got one of the biggest US state, Alaska. However, I'll take a once-in-a-lifetime price of $2,500 for it! That's only a fraction of what Jay is asking!:D
For any newbies reading this, sorry, these coins aren't rare. You might get a few bucks out of them on ebay. Just to clear things up.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I found one of those in a roll search last year - the prices are plummeting since there are now 2 known examples - I'll let mine for a mere $5K.

Would make a good match to mine with from the Lincoln IL mint. The mark is LIL, cuz it is the littlest mint.

Are those the ones JFK struck personally on a visit to the mint? :)

I never heard of JFK doing that but anything is possible. on the coins I have there is a large impression of JFK's head above the date.

There were too many for JFK to carry. The Secret Service were seen loading them on a hand truck and later onto Air Force One. The freedom of information act should allow us to see those records at some point.
