Some that have seen this picture before thought someone had sanded the one side and or used a hole punch on the other side. That's not the case in this matter, I just had a friend that told me this is how this coin came off the line, has all the ware as circulated. He said it's worth what ever any one would pay for it ,witch did not help me out a lot. So I am asking all the great people here at coin talk. and ideals what it could be worth. Thanks Angie...
since you are certain this is not post mint damage and know how this happened at the mint, please enlighten us!
well I am just going off me being a machinist at one time in my life. and worked with lathes and mills and cnc machines . witch I don't know coins much, but say the blank was cupped and when it was stamped the lincon image come there the other side making the round image in the center when the bottom die fell out or cracked. Thats my best shot. I will post some other error I have later when my usb microscope comes in. Thanks for all your feed back. This is how I learn. since all i do is stay home and look at coins all day.
Well your friend lied to you or he or she was drunk. There is no possible way this could have happened at the mint.
Well well well.. I say PMD.. if your "friend" is so sure that its valuable and came from the mint like that.. Tell this person to make you an offer. Anything over a Cent.. TAKE!. I do happen to know the minting process and there is no way this could of happened at the mint.
Well I am going to send it off, and if I am out 40 buck o-well but we will all know for sure .. Hows that sound. I will re-post the results !
If you really want to burn $40 to try to attribute this damaged coin, go for it. Just don't "forget" to post the results if it doesn't turn out how you like...
I am not saying I am right, But we all have to learn some how> do you agree? I have calipers and checked things and they are really close , so wish me luck.. usmc don't give up. But I have a hundred different error coins i can post to see if they are real come back tuesday and see some, thanks
just because a coin is damaged even from the mint doesn't make it a collectible error.i would say that if you are interested in error coins get some books instead of spending 40 first.
I got one that kind of looks like that one on the front. Check it out. Must have went through the same machine! lol
It must be nice to have $40.00 to just throw out the window. You absolutely must show us the results when it comes back.
I agree we all have to learn, I do not agree that burning $40 is a good way to learn, the coins is clearly post mint damage. How about this, save the coin, and if you are still in the hobby after a year and you still believe it's a true error from the mint then send it in. The coin will still be there, and you will not have missed anything by waiting, but chances are with a little more experience under your belt you will agree it's not an error, and waiting will save you the $40.
