What do you guys think of love tokens? I have recently got into counterstamped coins and love tokens seem to be similar. Some of them look interesting and I am think about purchasing them but i wanted to know if it is worth buying love tokens at all? I like the ones with the dates on them which i'm guessing would be anniversary dates. Whats your guys' opinion on them?

If you like them then buy them. Personally, while many are exquisitely done, I have never been compelled to buy a love token aside from an engraved "death coin" from my favorite series (RE half dollars).

Yes if find some that you like buy them, like the hobo nickles and other counter stamped coins. There are repo's that are sold as old and originals. That is why unless you trust the source I wouldn't spend big bucks for them but that's just me.

Here is one I picked up a couple years ago. The primary reason for buying it is they are my Daughters initials. I will give it to her when she is older. Collect them if you like them but I wouldn't plan on making much money off of them when you go to sell them.

Yeah thats my problem. I do really like them but I dont want to put money into them if they arent worth it.

I agree with Darryl. Most love tokens are relatively inexpensive probably because they're such a personal thing. Many are beautiful though and certainly worth collecting. --- Bruce

That said, they have increased in value the past few years.

They have become more popular to collect.

While it hurts to see a coin damaged, I really enjoy the added history a love token provides a coin. Here's one I just purchased. Love obv.JPG love rev 2.JPG

Are you part of the love token society? And I would love to see any of the love tokens you have. I currently own two and am charged with selling this beautiful love token bracelet which is currently in my possession but does not belong to me. More info about that bracelet on this link: http://www.winsociety.org/newsletter/vol-7/A-Tale-of-Love-Tokens.html Burnside 1.jpg Burnside 2.jpg

I bought one for my wife because the initials are SEW and she's on the board of the American Sewing Guild.

I might buy more if I could figure out the order of the initials on the coins.

BTW don't be surprised if a LOT of the ones you find on US coins are from 1853 with the arrows at the date.
The arrows gave them that little extra touch.
