Need help to id this Indian silver quarter rupee coin. Weight is approx 2.3 grams. Any help would be appreciated.
hi porthos. I have looked in all of my Krause catalogs, even as far back as the 17th century and did not locate your coins pics in them. could it be 16th century ? you might have a very rare coin here ??? if you can find out the date I will look again in my catalogs. thanks. very interesting coin by the way. looks like a hammer silver coin to me. I am guessing 17th or 18 century.
well I looked again and found the aproximate 2.3 grams weight search and found some simular but with no picture or values for the grades im my 17th century Krause catalog. the only way to identify it is by date or mint location. a mystery.
Its an anonymous dirhem of the Almohad (al-Muwahhidun) dynasty of North Africa. Circa AD 1160-1269. I have one myself: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-36710
Welcome porthos => cool square-pants coin!! (very interesting) ... please feel free to hang around and make yourself comfortable!! :high5:
Thanks a lot Spirityoda and Ardatirion. I was also going nuts trying to find the coin. I have literally trawled through the entire Krause but didnt find any match. Even the 'Arabic' inscriptions could not be deciphered by me or my friends. Thanks once again for your help.
