Has anyone ever cracked open those paper weights with straps inside?

I see these all over eBay:

Most sellers have a disclaimer stating they are unable to guarantee that the entire stack consists of real dollars. Those sellers also have no return policy.

It's certainly possible that the top and bottom notes are real, and the rest between them are just plain paper, cut to size.

I imagine these were all made around the same time, in the early 70s. All notes I have seen in these paper weights are from the 1969 to 1969C series.

What concerns me about these are that the serial number of the first note does not make sense for a fresh strap.

Also the strap paper itself does not look like the one that comes from the BEP. Some have advertising on it.

These have sold for less than the supposed face value. But I have yet to find anyone who has cracked one open.

    Any thoughts?

Anyone who thinks they are going to find anything more than two dollars in those blocks is suffering from self delusion.

i honestly have never seen one of those. i do think it's pretty dumb concept. i am sure most of the notes are not real. looking at the serial number of the first note it's obviously not the first note from the strap. SCAM!!!!

I recall (vaguely) someone actually making these, and they said that they were white paper. Also, there's no logical reason to encase $500 in lucite. Why would you use $500 to make a $30 paperweight?

Many years ago, I worked for a company that made those.
The only notes that are real are the ones you can see.
The inside notes are simply bogus paper.
There are only two dollars in that slab, and those are infused with
lucite so trying to break them out will totally destroy them.
