Hey Coin Talk Folks, Yes, there are more Minnesota "Doubled Die" State Quarters to be found! I purchased 4 rolls of 2005-P Minnesota State Quarters on Friday and just got through searching two of the rolls. Just in the two rolls alone, I found 13 DDR #20's, 17 DDR #16's and 3 apparently new Doubled Die Reverse Varieties. Since I am not too keen on all of these new Doubled Die Reverse Varieties yet, there may have been quite a few more that I overlooked. Heck, I think the number is up to 60 something Doubled Die Reverse Varieties alone and so many have showed up lately that the pictures of the latest finds have not been posted. I sent an email to Ken Potter inquiring as to whether the Variety that may be a new discovery, has been reported yet or listed yet. I will let you all know what I find out. Frank
Frank: Congratulations! It is always nice, to be Frank with you, to see a Frank do well. Good luck. The Other Frank
Frank #1 I just went to the coneca site I had no idea there were that many ddr Minnesota quarters, congatulations on your finds.
I pulled a #5 from change---would have been AU/BU so I put it on my clubs auction and sold it for $2.50 Speedy
Is there a site that has pictures of all the different variations? I haven't looked for any yet because so many of them just look like an extra spot here and there that it sounded kind of overwhelming to even start.
I checked out the other two rolls and although I did not pickup on anything on the third roll I checked as the lighting was not good. However, I will go back and check all of the Quarters in that roll again using better lighting. The fourth roll was a completely different matter as many of the coins show doubling. There are apparently several different DDRs with several being fairly similar and I can't even begin to pinpoint which ones as there more than 15 listed that are fairly similar. I may just find an Error Coin Dealer and let them worry about which Varieties they are! Frank
I think there has been around 60 Minn. "DD" found---note that I put " marks around the DD part--I'm not 100% sure that it is all they are hyped up to be. Speedy
Speedy, You are somewhat correct in that statement! There is a lot of hype in these Doubled Dies, first - because there are not supposed to be Doubled Die coins produced by the Mints and, two - because so many have been and are still being found! Although, there are several that are completely different than any of the others, there are quite a few that look similar or are almost identical to others. It will take some time to sort out but I am sure that the list of Die Numbers will be trimmed once all of the dust settles and the experts finally have time to really compare one DDR to the other DDRs. In doing so, they will more than likely find that two or more are the same Variety (Die #) but were at different Die Stages (i.e. EDS, MDS and LDS). This has happened in the past to other Doubled Die Varieties where there are subtle or significant differences in the doubling. The Die #'s go up as the Varieties are found and submitted (which look somewhat different than previous finds but are actually from the same Dies), then once the Experts have had a chance to catch their breath and really analyze specimens of all of the Varieties (Die #'s), they find that many are the same as some others but struck during an earlier or later Die State of the Dies. Frank: An excellent, well thought out, cogent response that makes me proud that your name is Frank. Frank - Forgitaboudit.
Ya know Frank---I have always thought that more than one of the DD's looked close to being the same but I never thought about them being just another stage in the die state---that would make "cents". Speedy
