This is a great auction pick. This coin was run through a local auction house unattributed. I just picked it up this morning and am able to confirm what we saw in the pictures. I figure you guys would like to see a nice high grade example.
May i ask what kind of premium this vam brings? My dealer has an extra fine but i have no idea of a fair price.
I know in XF grade, that variety runs about $100. But in uncirculated, this date alone is worth a nice price. So this is a significant find. Nice. In the current Cherry picker's guide, an AU goes for $62 normal price versus $200 variety price, an MS60 normal price is $475 while this variety is worth $750. In Ms 63, it's $3000 normal, $4000 variety.
It's a direct photo... The coin is semi PL so it does have a strange look when photographed... It was a hard one to shoot.
If that's the case, I'm guessing it would be about MS63. What is that mark/blemish around the "1" of the date? Chris
As if this coin wasn't already tough in MS, you have to go and find scarce VAM in MS! Actually, I think the coin being such a high grade works against it. IMO, being that it is one of the more common (and I use that loosely) E-clashed varieties, and one of the stronger E-clashes that is visible on even in the lowest grades, the premium the coin carries is not substantially more than a circulated example of the same variety. If this were the '87 it would be a different story
