Since I mostly search nickels, I was wondering what is the oldest full step Jefferson nickel everyone has found while roll hunting. Please post pics if you like.
'60 I believe? Nothing fancy lol. I have found a '38 in circulation before though (not full steps, sadly...)
I'm with you, I don't think any of my older ones are full step. I found a 43 D that is close but I don't think it's full. I just found a 38 searching today and not in bad shape. Can only make out about 2 steps though.
a 59' proof is the only one I've found with all 6 full steps, At least in the earlier years. And I've searched enough nickels to have every business strike, including the wars, 1938-D, 138-S, 1939-D, 1939-S, and 1950-D.
Fond memories I can't answer your question but I can tell you a story. :eating: In 1969 my cousin & I used to search bags of nickels. My uncle would bring home a bag from the casino (almost whenever we asked). The rule was that we had to pay a nickel for every one we removed. We filled our entire Jefferson nickel books from that searching. The tough ones were the 38 & 39 D & S and also the 50 D. Everything else including war nickels were found routinely. Obviously, I have very fond memories of those days. Last Sunday I got a Whitman nickel book in a lot that I purchased for 1.5 x face. You may have seen the thread here. The Whitman nickel book is essentially empty except that it has the 38 & 39 D & S and also the 50 D. Every other hole is empty. It made me smile. I think I'll take a photo of it tonight. It will probably make me smile again.
