1873 Three Cent Nickel - Closed or Open?

    I've looked at examples of each but they look very similar to me. Can someone help me out? Thanks.

    The large knobs on the three make it look like the closed but the space makes it look like the open. I can't tell.

    open, I believe.

    The closed look smore like an 8, hence the change in style

    Thanks, everyone. For future reference, are the "tips" of the 3 the only difference? Are there any other distinguishing characteristics? Like spacing perhaps?

    The open 3 date punch was made by altering the shape and size of the knobs on the closed date punch. In other words both dates types are from the same punches, one original and one after the punch was altered.
