I recently got back into coin collecting and I picked up a $500 box of Kennedy Half Dollars from the bank to look for any silver coins. Unfortunately, no luck - I'm left with $500 of Kennedys which are all are 1971 and newer. Do you think there's any value in reselling the box in bulk? Or is there little/no value over face? Below is from the coins I counted just to give a rough idea. Keep the 2002 through 2012 because those weren't meant for circulation. The rest I'd take to the bank and exchange for cash. Either find a credit union with a coin counter or roll them up. Don't bring them back to the bank that you bought them from because that will probably be the last box they order you if you do.
Thanks! I'll keep the 2002-2012. And absolutely, no way I'd bring them back to the same bank! I wish I had asked this before going through the coins, most of them are already rolled back up! I may go through a couple to check them out. I was so focused on finding pre 1970 that I overlooked these!
Hahahahhaha don't worry. I never knew of these errors the first 3 boxes that I looked through. It wasn't until the 4th box I started.
In all honesty I don't even check them for varieties because it hurts my eyes and I have a hard time concentrating.
Once you see a specific variety it's pretty easy to spot. It's very difficult to check each coin for new and existing varieties but once you know them you only have to check specific dates and know the best angle for seeing them. You can buy or see these varieties and then they're easy to spot. In time you'll add more and more to what you can see.
