I have a couple of 1973 Lincoln cents. They both have some doubling on the date. I have been wrong on some other coins so I'm not expecting these to be valuable. Thanks tom
Thanks guys. I looked at so many cents lately I'm going nuts. Sometimes they all look like error coins and then I look again and none of them are.. LOL. I have found 5 LiiBeirty coins, about 50 doubled memorial columns, and some cents with "extra" hairs on the forehead, LOTs of machine doubling, a couple of cuds with peeling lamination rot, a bunch of sketchy ears that I need to compare with others from the same date. I found 4 "Lincoln toupe" coins, and a LOT maybe 100 or so with thick smeared, and or doubled "United States of" I found a bunch of 1982 small date with fat smearred lettering on the reverse. I read somewhere that there is an '82 DDR that is quite rare. I'm going to have to study those. And of course I found 10 or more 1970S that I'm doing my best to hallucinate an error on.. LOL I got this $45 USB microscope so now I have to look at the 2000 coins all over again since I can see way better than with the plastic "Harbor Freight" 10x loupe.
I know what you mean. 2000 pennies are a lot. I just went through 20.00 worth and its mind blowing. there were times that I found stuff and went back and it wasn't there. well the teller stuck me with about 15rolls of 2013 P's. omg. I did find some small doubleD die's. there were some with a small extra ear lobe and 5 that I'm calling fat face Lincoln. there is an extra jaw Lin that runs below the other making him look like he has the mumps. well my question is where did you find a microscope?
The microscope is called a Celestron. Made in China. I ordered it .from Amazon $46 plus free 3 day shipping.. It has a little stand but I put it right on the coin unless I want to get the big picture. It's USB and comes with basic software for Windoze. It's only 2MP but has from 10X to 150X magnification. It has 6 LED's that you can't turn off and the light is a little bluish. If the coin is old it can make a reddish coin look browner, and it is sometimes hard to hold it on the edge of a coin to get the close up of the date because it keeps slipping off the edge of the coin AAARg. But.. after all that it's still a great tool. and its dirt cheap.
Yeah I usually find stuff right before bed and it's got a die clash or something amazing. In the morning it looks like a regular coin. I guess I looked at so many coin letters that they burned into my brain and I started seeing them when they weren't there..
I have done that before bed as well. Especially when the bank gives me rolls of 2013 pennies. I did find a neat one with an extra jaw line that I'm calling mumps Lincoln. And a couple extra with an extra ear lob. Minor doubled dies. I just would love to find a 70 s ddo. I have found several 1995 ddo pennies but I think what goes me is when I see die deteriation and I think that I have something. C'est la vI, and so is life. I honestly think that I'm addicted. I got two bank rolls from the store to look at while I'm a my girlfriends house. I need to prioritize.
