Very nice condition. I collect these, but am missing Leg VIII. Just from the images and weight, I don't think this is a fake.

I know next to nothing about these. It looks too good to be true. I'm going back tomorrow, maybe I'll take a chance on it if I can get it cheap.

What do you mean by "cheap"? Generally, if this is in good condition and authentic, I would say an approximate value of $100-$150 to the right collector.

As far as this legion is concerned, it would seem there must have been two Leg VIII's at the battle of Actium. Please, someone correct me if I am wrong. There is a lot of information regarding the Leg VIII Augusta (formerly VIII Gallica) which fought on the side of Octavian against Anthony. But I can find nothing on a LEG VIII that fought for Anthony other than coins struck by him. Anyways, here is a link to some interesting facts about LEG VIII Augusta: http://www.livius.org/le-lh/legio/viii_augusta.html

I might be totally wrong, but I am not liking the style. Its not that its high grade, its the style somehow that is making me nervous.

Agreed, thats why I thought it was fake in the other thread.

Hard to be sure from blurry pics but I personally do not see any problem stylewise... Small die break near the eagle left wing, credible deposits on obverse mainly, consistent wear,... I would buy this coin without hesitation (depending on the price) :thirst:

I agree with Batman, but better images are needed.

By cheap I was thinking $20, $30. I didn't know what to offer. It's hard for you folks to judge using my blurry pics. I don't want spend a lot on what might be a fake. That said I really do appreciate all of your help with this. I took the posted pics with my phone. If I buy it I'll post better pics, assuming it's available. I hope it's still available.

The flan looks all wrong, but with the blurry pics it is really hard to tell. Posting better pics and a pic of the edge would help quite bit.

If it is authentic though (and I would bet very good money against it) its value would be well over $500 in that condition (probably over $1000).

edit - Did a quick search and found this... looks like a match to me

Obviously I need some practice managing attachments.

This is the confirmed fake. Much more worn than the one you are looking at, but it looks like a match.

I see this is all settled. This morning I compared the OP coin to my authenticated coins. As you all have stated, the OP coin is most probably fake. The wings of the eagle are so much different from any of my MA Legionary coins that I too came to the same conclusion. A little late to the party, but I did arrive. Congrats to those who spotted it straight away.

It was a pretty good fake. This series is known to have some pretty convincing fakes.
