I'm happy as a clam, the reason I posted what I did is because he put words in my mouth that I did not say. Giving an example of how you could do worse than putting a million dollars in nickels is not bad mouthing stocks. It's called giving an example, which should be obvious to anyone with a 3rd grade reading comprehension. There are many ways you could do worse than putting a million in nickels in the last couple years, you could of bought silver/gold/platinum/copper/facebook ect.
...just wait till WWIII kicks off, then we will see who is laughing. NorthKorea, why did they make silver war nickels during WWII???
I'll assume that was a serious question. The US gov't made silver nickels in WW2 to AVOID causing a nickel shortage. The real cost of nickel was actually higher in the 70s that it was in WW2. Additionally, when/if WW3 occurs, the technology that we'll be using (drone combat planes, drone tanks, drone bomb/mine disposal) will likely cause a spike in the value of rare earth and platinum group metals before causing a spike in the cost of nickel. Nickel is an industrial metal. If we did encounter a war scenario which called for a large surplus of nickel (or copper, for that matter), the US Gov't would just pay the big 3 to stop making cars. The subsidy wouldn't be any worse than the US Gov't paying the automakers to produce inefficient cars in the mid-90s to increase demand for surplus oil.
He should have waited for the 100th Anniv. Gold Buffalo to come out, then place an order for 250,000 units when they first go on sale. Then make a video of all but 5 coins being melted into .9999 pure 10 oz bars. This would assure he would make his mark on the numismatic world.
Great idea! He could also buy and melt all of them except for one coin... so a unique coin would be left... but probably in his lifetime the value won't increase so much... and the grandchildren will argue about who's getting that coin
I wonder if he will hand search them? Or will he hire some unemployed model to search them, stipulating only bikinis may be worn while handling his coins..
