If you include commeratives, what are you looking at? 100 different types? Are you including the gold coins?

    Nice 20th Century type set

The S mint mark should be carefully inspected on that 20 cent piece. It appears to be the S/S $ mint mark. :smile

No I originally did not allow for any commemorative in my type set, but thats the beauty of a type set, you can evolve it to whatever you would like. A type set to me represents the major types of coins that were produced along with some key varieties in the mix. For example, I am looking for a 'CENTS' and 'NO CENTS' Liberty nickel, or a Type 1 and Type 2 Buffalo nickel. So in essence its all of the major coins without really overlapping, kind of a 'one of everything' type deal. So I originally didnt include the Commem halves in it, but based off my definition of what a type set means to me, I can add them to my set as they are completely different than any other coin already in my set. I do not intend to include all of the commemoratives, but if I can scoop one up rather cheap and it looks good and fits my criteria, then into the set she goes (both of the 2 commems i already have were a steal at $80 each for MS-64s).

As for gold, I think most people look at that as an add-on option after completing the body of their type set, which will likely go for me as well. I have plenty of time to acquire all the coins I want for my set.

I think we covered this ground already, but your eyes are super good to note that mint mark on that twenty center, i was fortunate enough to pick it up already slabbed and labeled as the S/S variety.

Was just looking at my excel and my Type-Set includes 81 coins with the earliest series starting in 1807 (Capped Bust Half Dollars). Thats before I added some extras like those 2 commemorative half dollars.

Here's the first page to my own kind of type set. I have a second page also. When I can I'll post pics. I've been on a silver half dollar kick lately.

Great set. The V nickels look fantastic. So many are worn almost flat. It's always good to see some the way they were meant to look.

I was about to type "that is the beauty of making a type set" & you just said it. :smile

I note that the Dansco 7070 album has four holes for US commemorative half dollars. However, the Dansco doesn't include a hole for one of my favorite dimes (the no star dime). I just crammed an 1837 no stars into the space they provide for 1838-60 seated dime.

FYI--> This Capital plastic holder includes holes for the 1999 State quarters.

It's nice to be subscribed to this thread so I will see your future additions. :thumb:

Looks like you have a fantastic Type set underway. I am slowly working on a type set of my own, trying to pick up affordable CAC coins. Looks like you don't have a Lincoln cent yet, neither do I. I think that will be my next purchase. Good luck with your collection.

I'm working on a 7070 right now, so I will certainly be keeping track of your progress on your type set for inspiration!

How do you guys place the coins into albums without holders? I had one of those for quarters but without a lot of patience coins would never stay in the hole... really wondering if it's only me?

Lincoln cent. Not a very good picture, but you can get the idea.

Here's an attempt at a video update of my favorites that currently reside in my type set.

I would like feedback on how the video plays on a computer, if at all.

It was shot with an iPhone 5, and then uploaded to PhotoBucket, so this is also an experiment to see it this method works for posting a mobile video.
