rzage thanks! It does indeed have some traces or original red luster. Uncirculated, but the weak spots on both sides are due to low metal flow into the high relief spots. Got that one on Ebay at what I think was a nice price. Two of my favorite CWT designs on the same token!

Received this today. 90% of my civil war tokens are patriotic. This one simply caught my attention. I think it was the likeness of Miss Liberty on the date side that did it.

That was a loooooong time ago. During my Alaska trip, I stopped at a little general store in Chicken, which had its own "gold creek" where people could try their hand at panning. I tried my hand at it for a couple of hours, and found about 4 or 5 tiny flecks of placer gold. Inside the store, they were selling little vials of placer gold for $3 each. I bought 3 and combined their contents, as well as my own 5 little pieces, into the one vial.

This token arrived today. I purchased it in the June 2, 2013 Steve Hayden online auction. I paid a very strong price for it, but it's not a token that comes up in this condition very often. The NGC population includes only 12 examples, among those one in MS66BN, and three in MS65RB. I don't know where the other two 65RB examples are, but I have a hard time believing they would challenge the eye appeal of this one.

The token is rated R-5 by Fuld, with 76-200 examples estimated extant. I have seen about a dozen in the VF-XF range on eBay over the past 2.5 years. The MS66BN example is in strong hands, and likely there for a long while. Given that I had searched for an eye appealing example of this token for well over 2 years, I bid strong to make this one mine. I usually don't care too much about pedigrees, but this token comes from the former Stephen Tanenbaum personal collection; who, for those of you CWT collectors out there, the guy was a legend. A very nice write up on the history of the token was written in December 2012 by Aaron Packard on the NovaNumismatics site, and I have included that in my description of the token in my horses set which you can read here.

They don't get much better than that brg. Congratulations on having the patience to wait for the piece you really wanted and adding it to your collection. I have a few of Steve Tanenbaum's tokens too (counterstamps of course) and the provenance is very important to me. I bought mine from both Steve Hayden and Dave Bowers over the past several months. Thanks for posting the great picture. Bruce

Since wifey is still visiting her outlaws in FLA. I decided to take a short road trip before lunch to one of the remaining LCS in the Metro Det, well actually Grosse Pointe Mi. I live about15 miles away.
Asked if they had any tokens, the guy went into the back room and came out with a handful of assorted tokens. medals and one elongated Penny. Most had a layer of curd on them. I forget my loupe so I couldn't make out what was on it. I took a chance, since I probably wouldn't have it anyways.
Well I get home and fill the ultrasonic cleaner with Mr. clean grease and curd cutter turn on the heater and then put in the tokens. set it for 460 seconds (7.6666666) minutes on a side then repeat.

Here are a couple more that I picked up yesterday, the aluminum and antiqued copper ones. The Gold colored plastic one was a freebee, from another LCS a few weeks ago by the owner. I will have to find out if they put it out in a silver bullion type coin. Does anybody know?

The backroom junk box finds at a LCS, continues to get better. This next one is a great looking medal It looked like a bad chrome plating job. But It turns out it is "Coin is layered in pure .999 Silver and 24 kt gold. It is marked on the two sides as follows: Front: RONALD W. REAGAN 40th AMERICAN PRESIDENT 1984 AA Reverse: DOUBLE EAGLE PRESIDENTIAL COMMEMORATIVE AA "

Came with a numbered certificate of authenticity of course mine didn't have it and there seems to be a wealth of them offered on flea bay. Along with a number of different versions.

Reverse, they are aluminum with the anodized color. So far I have found that some other tokens were minted out of .925 silver and assorted bronzes by the coin of the month club out of Sioux Falls S.D. the web site is under construction. If anybody knows of the club or a working site, I would appreciate any info.

Well,It seems that the gods of finding neat tokens and medals have smiled upon me once more!
I was at a near by LCS yesterday, I haven't been there in a couple of weeks as I went to some other ones and they smiled upon me numerous times. For some reason while I was in the city it was in taking care of my mothers grass, I just had to stop by even though I was planning on doing it tomorrow.
Here's what was waiting for me along with some other items that I have to photo and process.
Sterling silver version of the pewter and copper ones I got and posted a couple weeks ago.

So now I'm wondering if there is a bronze and a plastic ones.
    Another great day token hunting.
