I just got a hundred dollar box of nickels and was wondering if it was worth it to keep it. It's full of 2012 nickels in those clear plastic rolls. The ends are kinda scratched but the middles are fine. Should I keep it? Or just return it. Would it sell at a premium? And variety s for this year
You might get more replies to this question is it were placed in the "Coin Roll Hunting" section of CoinTalk. I do not know the answers to your questions. I have seen some CT threads that discussed the value of hoarding bulk nickels and there are probably threads describing the 2012 date & varieties. You could start by searching "2012 Nickel" and "bulk nickels" at CoinTalk. You might also check to see if there are varieties listed at www.vaietyvista.com .
I suppose that all depends on if there is any demand for them, but I've not paid any attention to rolls since 2009. The more I think about it, I have gotten a lot of 2012's in change, so chances are good that this box is nothing special. I remember when the 2010 cents were released and there were people were asking 09 premiums on boxes that could be had most anywhere. If the box was easy for you to get, it goes to reason that it is probably the same for others, but there are always the exceptions.
