Does anyone know what this was minted for to commemorate or what year it was made? I suspect strongly its mid 1800's based on the Victoria design. I cannot seem to find anything online other than this recent eBay sale http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Victoria-...-qui-mal-y-pense-Medallion-19mm-/350756769878 thanks, RMiller
It is a British 19th century gaming token. They have all kinds of inscriptions on them. I have a similar one. Great Britain Victoria Model Half Sovereign gaming token Obverse: Profile of Queen Victoria VICTORIA QUEEN OF GREAT BRITAIN 1841 Reverse: Royal crown logo THE PRINCE OF WALES MODEL HALF SOVRN Size: 19mm Metal: Brass
Actually the OP's piece appears to date from the early to mid 1840s and also refers to the Prince of Wales, as the motto on the reverse is the one used for the Prince of Wales. I have to wonder that this is some sort of commemorative for Prince Albert Edward, who to his mother's chagrin became King Edward VII instead of King Albert I. He was born in 1841, and I am pretty sure the piece from the appearance of it must have been rendered thereafter.
