How many of these medals are produced and does the error make it collectable. it has a bead between the tips of the tail feathers. weight 26.6 grams, 3mm thick.and 39mmdiametor , non magnetic
na he is in Canada, he is good to go.. as for the Medal, it would not be a collectable in my adobe.. If it floats your boat, enjoy.. ( I dont care for most of the modern items from any mint )
Considering it does not appear to be marked, and it doesn't weigh an oz, I would question if it is even silver. Plated maybe? (Maybe it is a new Obama oz! Buy an oz of silver and get 26.6 grams.) As for it being an error, I've never seen one, so it it possible that it is not an error and they are all like this?
Such a "flaw" on anything would not add a premium to its value which is probably melt value. I don't think it would even be considered an error although those that do not know about the minting process and what is within accepted tolerance would probably argue otherwise.
His ears are way too small in this rendition! There should also be a much larger void between them!!!
Not what i was exspecting to read that most of you dont like Obama . Thats ok tho iam sure someone out there can help me solve this mystery
Maybe you should have added "no political comments please". We do ask our members to refrain from posting them in the coin forums, but there is a gray area between fun and nasty. As for your medal, the problem is that (apparently) none of us knows how many of those were produced, and what material they are made from. Coins are usually issued by countries/governments, and it is possible to look such information up. A medal can be made by anybody who has the equipment to make it - usually private mints. Also, while such medals can be attractive memorabilia, there is (with very few exceptions) hardly any "secondary market" for them ... Christian
Sorry countryboy, we're a tuff crowd down here! Looks to me like your medal is possibly clad, therefore it could be just a bubble under the clad layer, or maybe it has a flaw from the die that struck it. These were probably produced by some small mint somewhere so there is probably not very many out there. Edited ~forum rules on politics. This is not the forum to express your political views. There are Tuff mods here also who also see the rules are to be followed Jim
Did some more searching and this is what i came up with .https://www.newenglandmintcoins.com/item.wns?sku=FROBGMED. also found it is being sold at Motormint
playpossum, no problum with a lil humor once and awhile . i do agree with you all from the south., as you know watching the canadian news our canadian goverment isnt so popular either
Well the two sites you found selling the medal should tell you something. Since they are selling it for $10 it obviously is not silver (Also note they are selling the "gold" version for the same $10, or you can get both for $15.) I also like how both sites use the same description for the reverse, and it doesn't match the medal they are selling. While it calls it an "Inaugural commemorative" It is NOT the official inaugural medal and apparently has no official authorization. So it is just a privately made medal struck in base metal which will almost certainly have little or no aftermaket value other than the scrap metal value.
