Anyone seen this before?

I need help ID'ing this chinese coin. I really have no clue about it what so ever.


Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like a fantasy/token piece to me, but there are others more expert than I on these issues here.

 

Penny Pincher Coins lists it as "CHINA 20 CASH GREAT LOOKING HIGH-GRADE COIN" and is offering it for $3.75

 

Really? It does sort of resemble a token piece so I see what you mean. hmm...

 

haha actually I work for PPC. We got this coin in from a batch of other coins and just had no clue about this one. We took our best guess but I wanted a more precise answer. And yeah we put it up for auction. Not really why I started this post though. I'm just too OCD about a coin that I don't know and I've researched this piece for a good 1/2 hr to an hr with no luck whatsoever. I just thought somebody here might recognize it or something like it.

 

I'm no Chinese coin expert but I'd say there's almost no chance that's a coin. It just doesn't look like it. Some sort of other token I think.

 

I think, it's a modern souvenir for a tourists.

I wrote that post about two years ago.

Since that time, I have seen charms with a similar calligraphy show up in coin forums in China.

The Chinese usually consider them to be "American".
