World Coins: Your Newest Acquisition!

Something totally unexpected - I went to a coin show today to the one guy I usually buy coins from. He typically doesn't have any bullion coins, but today I found these 1/20 and 1/10 ounce Libertads. I'd never seen them before, and from the searches I did online after returning home they're pretty hard to find or expensive. I got a great deal.

These make me wonder why Mexico produces (or produced?) these fractional silver coins. I understand the demand for 1/20, 1/10, 1/4 ounce gold coins, but silver? Anyone with the funds to buy coins can afford a one ounce coin of pure silver.

Still, I think these coins are pretty cool and was glad to find them.

1958 Philippines 25 Centavos & 50 Centavos

One of my sub-colections includes coins dated 1958. I recently got these two coins from The Philippines.

 

1972 India Proof Set

 

I found a 1967 Canadian albatross penny in a roll of American pennies.

 

It's not an Albatross on the cent, but a Rock Dove (more commonly known as a Pigeon) .

It looks like a good coin

 

A little ding on the nose, but a nice circulated example of the 1921 Dos Pesos. Got this for too good of a price to pass up. $400 in Unc is a little too much for me, so I'll go with used at this time. Waiting on a 1995 50 Nuevo Pesos to arrive from Mexico. When I get that, my 20th Century Mexico type set will be complete except for an example of KM# 418. 1970,1972,or 1973 1 Centavo. Have 2 sources in Mexico looking and hope to have by the end of next week. Who would have thought a simple 1 Centavo would be that hard to find. 95 down 1 to go.

Yesterday I checked the Coinstar reject bin on advice of members of this very forum and found a 1917 French 50 centimes coin. When I picked it up I thought "another silver dime!" but it felt a little bigger. It is made of silver. Yay for me!
