Top is better, color is more accurate. The difference is that the background is cropped out, eliminating the shadow and making the color solid, so as not to distract. Otherwise pretty similar looking.
OK, now I have to show my ignorance. I have been shooting the images of my coins with a colored background (blue, black, etc.). How do you guys change the color of the background just using the image itself? AJ says he takes the image and places it on a black background, but I'll be darned it I know how to do that. Any help?
How I do it is I take it on a white background, which usually ends up gray/bluish, and then I crop the background to make it pure white
http://www.forumancientcoins.com/dougsmith/coinphoto2011ez3.html The more effort you use making the background to be removed simple, the easier it will be to remove the background. Selection tools are wonderful but an almost even gray/blue/black will always be easier to remove than fingers. Photoshop is a very expensive program with a steep learning curve and capabilities that 99% of its owners never use. I really suggest a simpler program like Photoshop Elements for most of us. I use version 10 but I see 11 is out now. I do not know what they changed.
have any of you guys ever used gimp? i have that now...maybe i'll mess with it. it's also free, but i'm not familar with what it can do compared to other stuff out there, still learning....s l o w l y.
