I have a 1939 nickel that sticks to a magnet...in all appearance it looks like a real nickel..the wear on it looks consistent with normal wear...any thoughts?...no mint mark.dont have scale to weigh..but sure i could if it need be....and can do picture although it seems a typical nickel other than magnetic.

    Did notice

its a bit thicker than normal nickel though...and can see marks along edge than would indicate not struck in press or was ground down afterwards.as marks go circular around edge .had to use loupe to see these marks..so guess junk..

Might have to retract last comment...wife was looking at edge of other nickels and surfaces dont seem to vary much from this coin..can see lots of variations on others....

You can discuss with yourself for very long time about this, but it would be more efficient if you post good quality photos and allow others to express their opinion.

Kind of a rude comment if you ask me, was just adding some of my observations...i dont have camera good enough to take pictures of thin edge of a coin...do you?....guess im done here..and guess you expressed your opinion?

It sounds like your coin may have a magnetic bezel attached to the rim of it. sometimes people do this too use the coins on jewelery.
