Yes, I am looking to buy a raw trade Dollar on eBay, against all the conventional wisdom. Sorry, I just have trouble finding holed specimens in reputable slabs . Would you all please inspect these photos to see if there is anything obviously amiss with this coin. The seller has nearly 1500 for a feedback rating with 100% positive, so he seems reputable. I just have never had any desire to own a trade dollar before starting my holed type set, so I don't know what to look for when it comes to finding the fakes. P.S. I have asked the seller for exact weight and diameter measurement, so I will add that info once I get it.
It looks alright to me...I can almost tell if its a cast copy and this doesn't look like it... Speedy
The soapy appearance & dull grey colour are usually the first indicators of being a dud.Weigh the item as well.If it feels light, then it's a dud. Aidan.
I agree, everything looks as it should including the appeararence of the fields. If it does turn out ot be a fake after you buy it,you can always identify the seller by his fingerprints..
The coin looks authentic to me! I can see no tell tale signs that would indicate a Counterfeit. Even a Counterfeiter or someone that knows that a coin is a Counterfeit would not drill a hole in it as this would reveal it's inner depths which could be inspected with the right lighting and magnification. To be honest, only an idiot would drill a hole in such a nice coin! Frank
Frank,if this holed U.S. Trade $1 is genuine, then it is still good as a collector's piece. It is a rare & extremely difficult series to collect. Aidan.
It looks real to me! I think I'll bid on this one, when does the auction end? Looks like I'll need to dig up some plutonium for the old DeLorean if I want to get my bid in!
dopeuser: Most likely it is real, for one reason, no one (probably) would counterfeit a Trade dollar and then put a hole in it. It lowers the value, and they would want to get the most for their labor.
The coin might look okay, but the hole looks like a counterfeit. I've never seen such a perfect hole in a coin and I'm not sure that it's an old "authentic" hole.
Great! Now the coin is okay but the hole is a counterfeit! Them dang Shanghai Chinese guys will counterfeit anything, even holes. The hole is so perfect, I bet they are using laser hole molds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Frank
