Hello everyone! I just received some pretty amazing news and had to share it You see my Aunt Gretchen is a jewelry designer and very familiar with metals, drawings and sports celebrities, so she decided to enter a project into the "Baseball Coin Design Competition". Today they posted the top 24 designs from across the country and she is IN! Only one can win, but we have our fingers crossed! Her design is "Team Liberty" and they can all be seen here: http://batterup.challenge.gov/submi...ery&utm_medium=email&utm_source=transactional
The important part is the honor of having your design used by the United States MINT, but I think there is also a cash prize of $5k.
My two favorites so far are the "America's Pastime" and "Team Liberty". Does the public vote on the designs, or is it all done by the mint?
I thought the design contest was for kids.... Congratulations to your Aunt, but I have to say that my favorite is "Liberty is a Grand Slam".
Congratulations to your aunt! I actually like a few of the designs, but my favorite would be "the proud American classic" coin design.
I like Liberty is a Grand Slam, I think it will work well with the concave surfaces of the coin. Several of the designs were done keeping that feature in mind, but mostly to emphisis the "pocket" of a glove. Several of those designs, when mapped onto the curved concave surface, would look oddly distorted.
'Dad's Baseball Glove' would be perfect for the concave design. It looks exactly like my first mitt..........
