As of June 3rd approximatly 231,500 units have been ordered,And with only three days left to go before the 30 day window period of sales ends and depending on how many returns there are the 2013 reverse proof could be the 2nd lowest mintage and a first year of issue for the enhanced uncirculated sae should we buy on june 6th ? 2006-248,875 2011-100,000 2012-224,981 http://mintnewsblog.com/2013/05/west-point-silver-eagle-set-ordering-ends-next-week/ :smile
It's not just mintage, it's also demand. I think that this set will have high demand going forward because of the interesting finishes to the coin. So even if the mintage goes to 300,000, this set could still be worth more than the lower mintage sets.
I don't think this set will go to 300K because sales have been quite slow and last years set had 26,321 cancelled orders ! Some collectors may cancell extra orders and some fence-sitters may opt not to place orders. 2006-20th Anniversary Silver Eagle Sets 248,875 2011-25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Sets 100,000 2012-75th Anniversary San Francisco Mint Sets 224,981 2012 S.F. I ordered mine. I figure at that price it's a reasonable gamble. I've seen a reverse proof and it's lovely. I'm pretty excited to see the enhanced too. I plan on keeping these in my bullion coin collection, not reselling.
The secondary market sets the value,It depends on the supply & demand at the time that you sell it get in early ! 2006 Three coins Mint Price $100 Raw Sets http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...t&_nkwusc=2006+20th+anniversay+ase+set&_rdc=1 2011 Five coins Mint Pice $299.95 Raw Sets http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...0&_nkw=2011+25th+anniversary+ase+set&_sacat=0 2012 Two coins Mint Price $150 Raw Sets http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trk...h+anniversary+mint+set&_sacat=11116&_from=R40 Guess the final mintage 215K
You're probably right. If people haven't ordered it by now, they probably won't get it. The collectors with peak interest have already ordered. Speculating on Mint products has never been a decent investment. You can get lucky, but most times not. I am getting a set because I love the finish and I probably won't think of selling it for years. Those who do profit from Mint products generally buy consistently and many products, so when they do hit a winner, it's icing on the cake.
Thanks guys. I'm interested in getting one just to have it, but I'll probably just buy one broken up from the set in a little while and hope the price doesn't go up in the mean time.
Using Hollywoods links, and looking at the completed sales that actually sold, AND only looking at raw set (which is what you get from the mint) it looks like 2006 three coin sets OP $100 are selling from $300 to $350 3 to 3.5 times issue price 2011 five coin sets OP $300 are selling for $600 to $650 2 to 2.15 times issue price 2012 two coin sets OP $150 are selling for $160 to $200 or 1.06 to 1.33 times issue price. With the way the trend is going I would be skeptical as to how well the 2013 set will do. It does have the enhanced finish piece going for it which has not appeared in any other set which may help it do better. But if later sets have pieces with that finish as well it may draw down the cashe of the 2013 set. On the earlier sets graded sets do sell for more, but on the other hand you then have the additional cost for slabbing the coins (slabbing fees plus S&H both ways) that has to be added to the issue price. if you get 70's then you will probably do well, but if you get lower grades it probably won't improve the price multipliers mentioned above.
It takes a while to work off the initial oversupply. That's one reason the 2012 set has barely budged from the initial price. Everyone could buy as many as they wanted at issue price last year; so they got their fill. Gradually the supply will dry up and new buyers will emerge.
Those are low prices for the 2011 & 2012 compared to the 2006! So, what’s going on? The 2011 is a much better set than the 2006 – 2 unique coins at a much lower mintage than the 1 unique coin in the 2006 set. The 2011 set may need more time to realize it’s potential, since it was a more recent offering with sales concentrate in a few flippers’ hands, so there’s still plenty on the market. The 2012, well it’s still too new. One problem with those prices is they are probably raw sets on eBay and most know 90% of those are bottom grade/problem coins. Now nice raw sets in an LCS can command much more from a buyer that knows how to grade.
We're at 243,226 ordered. Only 6 hours of ordering left. So if anybody is still on the fence, now's the time!
IT's OVER!!!!!!! True to their word, the Mint has now officially closed the ordering period. As of this moment, the total ordered is 251,695. This will be updated tomorrow to reflect late sales. I'm looking forward to getting a set.
The final total will be posted on the mint's web site by 3:00 PM Eastern today. (Fri 6/7) After that, the numbers will have to be adjusted for cancellations and returns. I'm hoping that the final total is under 260K.
Oooohhhh, you jinxed it !! :hail: Final total at Mint site is 281, 310 That's quite a surge on the last day.
