Hey guys. How many of you collect nickels, specifically coin roll hunt for them? Could you direct me to some links? Advice? Thanks, jonathan (AmericasNickels)
I mainly do nickels and have found many goodies. The best has been two 50-Ds, several fifties and forties uncirculated San Fransiscoas (46-S, 48-S, 53-S, 54-S) and several 38-Ss and 38-Ds and many (~50 war nickels). I only have one Jefferson to find in circulation - the 39-D.
The only crh I do is the rolls in my register at work. I love searching the nickel rolls because i'm always finding old ones. I find a lot more old nickels than I find wheat pennies. The earliest nickels I found were a 1937 buffalo, 1939, about 20 in the 1940's including a type 2 1942 P silver war nickel. I also found a bunch of S mint marks. And all of this I have found within the past 2 months. I'm new to crh.
love nickels. I look for pre 1960s, war nickels, 2009s (very low mintage,) buffaloes and earlier, and anything else thats interesting.
Funny, but my cutoff date is 1960 as well (except for dimes, quarters, and 50 cent and larger pieces.)
I occasionally hit the nickels, but they are pretty heavy and have a lower expected value, so I usually only pick up a few rolls at a time.
I coin roll hunt nickels for silver war's, solid date rolls as I keep rolls on hand and full step nickels. I do keep an eye out for the typical "keys and semi-keys" but they are hard to find anymore and you have to dump back lot's of junk. FS's I've found all the way back to 1975 and the newest are 2013's a hand full of silver's and up until this last box about 8 roll that where solid date and mint mark unc rolls with 1960's being the earliest most are 90's and 2000's.
I have found several of the '38-S, D, and 39-S and D but nary a '50-D. My little money loving heart skips a beat everytime I see a 1950 peaking at my mug - but alas still that coin alludes me.
