Sorry guys, I've been gone for awhile because I've been really ill and lazy all at the same time. Lots of things going on coin-wise right now. First of all, I borrowed a camera from a friend of mine. Certainly not the best camera, it's a Nikon Coolpix S6300. I also picked up a desklamp at a church sale for $7. I saw that and got it right away. It has incandescent and fluorescent bulbs in it. I can use both at the same time, or each separately. And now for my first shoot. It's not exactly very good, slightly blurry and I believe I need some tips to improve, perhaps. And now here is the original scanner photo I made many months ago for comparison.
The latest images are much better. Clearer for sure. Try a different color background. I use blue, but many of the nicer images I see are on a black background. I believe many people use photoshop to add the colored background, but I do not have that program. So, I use an old blue cell phone gel cover when I shoot. I would also say that I've tried all kinds of lighting, but I've settled on just plane ole incandescent light. As an example, here is the seller's image of a coin I bought recently and then my photos:

The new pictures do look better. Coins with dark patinas are not easy to take pictures of. You may have to take the picture at an angle and then crop it out with a photo editing software. You may also need to use a black background underneath the coin. Try it out, and see if that helps.
