I have a few questions about this medal. What is the mintage & is the lion on the obverse or reverse?
This isn't a coin of course, but I thought it had a neat looking lion on it. This is a 1 ounce silver round I have.
Hello Evgeney, When I purchased this coin earlier this week, I immediately thought of your cool lion thread. I hope it is OK that I resurrected the thread today. Everyone must have some more lions to post. :thumb: My new coin is a silver Obol from Kyzikos MYSIA. Mysia is the territory just north of Lydia & Ionia. On today's map it is located in Northwest Turkey about 50 miles SW of Istanbul. This coin was minted circa 450-400 B.C. Note that it is a tiny little coin with very fine detail. It weighs 0.85 grams and is about 11 mm diameter. Let's post some more lions. :smile
Britania is frequently found with her cat at her side. The lady on the medal is offering her kitty a bowl of milk.
1 more from Belgium 1832 copper 10 centimes. has some patina issues but I still like it. : I had forgoten I had this 1 burried with some other coins. sure put a smile on my face to see it again. looks better in person.
I was not aware of steve6X lion thread until now. I think I was otherwise occupied back in April. Here is a NEWP that includes a lion. This ancient coin is from Ionia (located on the west coast of modern Turkey). It is 1/12 of a Stater and dates to the late 6th, early 5th Century.
