Tacitus AE Antoninianus. 275-276 AD, 3.6g, 23mm OBV: IMP C M CL TACITVS AVG. Radiate and cuirassed bust right. REV: MARTI PACIF. Mars advancing left, holding branch, spear and shield. XXIVI in ex. REF: Unlisted? I can't be certain but I looked on Wildwinds as I usually do as a starting point and then consulted RIC Volume V-1 and couldn't find a match for this coin. I have not seen any that use the value, twenty parts bronze to silver. This one is kind of confusing to me but you can see some silver wash on it. Wikipedia copy and paste history.
Have a look at this:- http://www.ric.mom.fr/en/coin/3764 This invaluable research site allows you to add your new specimen too. Regards, Martin
I would upload yours also since it is the less common reverse die of the two listed for the type (compare the toe of Mars position with the first X) and might be of use to some scholar using this new resource. It is more than just a nice coin.
I believe I will upload it soon. At first I was thinking not to because there is already an example there of this coin. Thanks guys for the comments.
I just submitted that coin. The form kind of malfunctioned and so I'm not sure if it went through all the way even though it said it did. We shall see.
I have good news. My coin has been accepted and will be added to the database in the next couple of weeks.
Being listed in the next standard reference can't hurt the resale value of such a coin but that coin is nice enough that you should keep it long term so resale value is not all that important.
